Funding, No 10 Visit

Staffordshire Adults Autistic Society (SAAS) have received funding from cllr Simon tag, (SLCF) Staffordshire local community fund, for two computers and printers a total of £1000,00 for there new headquarters in Newcastle under lyme. Kevin Healey chairman of SAAS, said " this is great news for the charity” that we have received this funding from the leader of Newcastle council, this will help us enormously, we have recruited all our volunteers this week, and our new office launch will be on the 13th of January 2009, Kevin also said “ I recently came back from Downing street this week after a meeting with Sarah Brown about autism services in the UK, the meeting was very positive, Phil hope the Minister for state and care services was present at the meeting and also other Government ministers, I talked to Sarah about Autism charity’s local and National Charitys to be working in partnership, and also spoke about how important it is for Adult services for people with Autism when they pass the transition period into Adulthood, and the importance of earlier Diagnoses, and the urgent call for funding from central Government for local Autism Charity’s who are at grassroots. The charity are embarking on a half a million pound project to have a cyber cafe in the heart of Stoke on Trent for adults with ASD, this will make a huge difference to people’s lives with Autism. The cafe will help them to begin and develop life skills, job opportunities, volunteer opportunities etc. The project will start next year.
